Family circle
Domicile conjugal
Run Time
01:37
Having reached adulthood, Antoine tries to cope with family life. He is married to his sweetheart, Christine, who sells flowers and teaches violin, while Antoine tries his hand at being a novelist. The couple, who have achieved a seemingly cozy life together, will soon welcome their first child. However, Antoine, who continues to change strange jobs, meets a young Japanese woman and shakes the fragile marriage with infidelity. Despite everything, Antoine and Christine do not lose touch with each other. According to Truffaut, "Family Circle" is a comic adaptation of his 1964 film "Soft Body", which was nominated for the Palme d'Or, but kept a wider audience away from cinema halls with its gloom. In the main characters of both films, Truffaut's own adventures and experiences were mixed with fiction, but Doinel's character allowed the director to look at serious issues through the lens of humor. When the film was finished, he had to admit that "The Family Circle" was also somewhat gloomy. Doinel's character increasingly took on a life of its own and no longer merely mirrored Truffaut and Léaud.
