Run Time
02:50
Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) is a master thief whose men are insubordinate and time is turning. His concessions are respected only by Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino), the detective who pursues him devotedly. McCauley is a genius, but Hanna is destined to guess his next move. Despite the situation, the sense of piety of the two men who are at odds in the eyes of the law is one of solidarity, they take time out for a while over a cup of coffee. Men's introspection alternates with elaborate shoot-out scenes.
The thoroughly cool, felt and polished style is precisely the basis for why "Heat" is such an appreciated and influential crime drama. Director Michael Mann wrote "Heat" based on empirical knowledge. The film has been influenced by people the director knew, met or investigated - thieves, murderers, their relatives and henchmen. The film is based on Mann's research into the behavior patterns and mindset of criminals. The masterpiece simply evokes the criminal nature of Los Angeles. The screenplay, written and improved over 16 years, confirms Michael Mann's mastery as the most intelligent action film director.
