Mulholland Drive

Homage to cult director David Lynch.

A true cinematic masterpiece. Everything fits: editing / rhythm, sound, tempo, framing... On top of all that, there has been no mention of Lynch's long-time composer Angelo Badalamenti, whose best-known work is perhaps the theme music of "Twin Peaks", but the soundtrack here is also perfectly suited to the film, emphasizing The decadence, the insidiousness of Los Angeles seen through Lynch's eyes. Lynch's Hollywood is a spooky place, a graveyard of broken dreams, which is also hinted at by Mulholland Drive. 

Mulholland Drive was originally planned as a TV series, but when the pilot was rejected, Lynch decided to turn it into a feature film and shot some additional footage. Perhaps this is partly why the result is even more labyrinthine than average, continuing the so-called "Lost Highway". The structure of the Möbius sheet, when the ends of the end and the beginning meet again.
There are miles of interpretations written about this film, some more true than others, but it is generally agreed that there is still no completely satisfactory version of the events. It's not up to everyone to decide what is reality here and what isn't, a dream or not. Anyway, Mulholland Drive is one of the most extraordinary films of the 21st century and is often considered the best of Lynch's feature films. Lynch received the Best Director award from Cannes and an Oscar nomination in the same category.
