Genre

Documentary, Estonian movie
Directed by Kaupo Kruusiaugu, a documentary film about Anett Kontaveidi, the most successful Estonian tennis player who became the second racket in the world. The film takes a look at the highlights of Anet's career as well as the difficulties she experienced, which led to her decision to give up elite sports. Estonia's number one player Anett Kontaveit announced her plan to end top sports in the summer of last year. The ripening of the decision and the announcement to the public fell during the period during which Anetti was often accompanied by a film crew, because a film about the life of the top tennis player was being prepared. According to Kaupo Kruusiaugu, the director of several successful documentaries, the ground-breaking decision made during the filming of Anet made the film special. "When you start making a documentary, you can never set the script exactly, because the film reflects the main character's life as it is. We went to make a film about a top tennis player: about his life and the development of his career, not knowing that it was during the filming period that such an important turn in Aneti's career would take place." Kruisaugu's films take a deep look into the everyday life of the main characters, with the aim of showing what hard work, determination, as well as psychological struggles lie behind success and what the price of defeat is. According to the director, in the documentary film "Anett" you can observe very closely the maturation of Anet's life-changing decision. "This is real life, which remains in the shadow of the brilliant world of tennis: efforts at the limit of human capabilities, victories, defeats. The price of being at the top is often loneliness." "The film provides a good opportunity to observe the end of an extraordinary journey and the beginning of a new one," said Kruusiauk. The time of great changes in Anett Kontaveidi's life continues - together with her partner, she is expecting the family's first child soon. In addition to Anett Kontaveidi, people who had an important role in the development of her career - Anet's mother and first coach Ülle Milk, long-time supporter and manager Tarmo Sumberg, Anet's last coach Torben Beltz and others - get their say in the documentary. The director and producer of the film is Kaupo Kruusiauk, cinematographer Aivo Rannik ("A year full of drama", 2019), sound operator Mart Kessel-Otsa, editor Roland Abel, sound director Harmo Kallaste, composer Sander Mölder and designer Janek Murd. The film is produced by Flo Film, executive producer is Katre Ratassepp. The production of the documentary film "Anett" is supported by the Estonian Film Institute, the Estonian Cultural Capital and private sponsors. Kaupo Kruusiaugu's previous full-length documentary "Machina Faust" portrayed the talented musician and composer Maria Faust. It was chosen as the best Estonian film of 2022 (Neitsi Maali) by the Estonian Film Journalists Association and as the best Estonian documentary film at the EFTA 2023 gala. Kaupo Kruusiauk has also made a documentary about chess player Jaan Ehlvest, actor and musician Peeter Volkonski, and most recently Tarmo Soomere, president of the Estonian Academy of Sciences.
